Depending on how you heard it, Jason Newsted either quit Metallica, or he got fired. After listening to the debut album from Echo Brain, I would say he quit Metallica, and for good reason. Echo Brain is about as close to Metallica as Matchbox 20 is to Slayer, and that proves to be a good thing. Although Echo Brain will probably gain noteriety for their famous bass player, the real star of the show is the singer/guitar player, Dylan Donken. To put it mildly, the guy is more amazingly talented than most any frontman I can think of. His guitar style is great(mostly acoustic with electric leads), and his voice is absolutely amazing. His real talent is his ability to mix it up so that it doesn't bore you as the album progresses. I was amazed by the variety of music on this album, mixing in everything from Pink Floyd to Soundgarden. This album is a great new rock album. It was so good to hear a new album that wasn't another "garage rock" album; that shit is getting old really fast. This album is new, refreshing, and proves that Jason did the right thing in leaving Metallica. If your a huge Metallica fan, and this pisses you off, don't email me cause I don't give a shit. If you are willing to check something new, give Echo Brain a try, and I promise you won't be dissapointed.
