Monsters Ball A lifetime of change can happen in a single moment, or so says the tag line of this movie. Billy Bob plays a real son of a bitch and a racist prison guard to boot that turns another leaf after getting it on with the hotness that is Halle "Hubba Hubba" Berry.
Monsters Ball was a pretty damn good film. Billy Bobs character keeps it interesting, even if it might not be beliveable, Halle Berry does a good job crying and carrying on, which earned her a Oscar, and as far as I'm concerned any movie with Mos Def in it is a okay by me.
I give this movie 8 out of 10 for naked Halle Berry boobies.
Sexy Beast A bad ass gangster tries to recruit a retired gangster for a high stakes break-in and hijinks ensue.
SNAP! This movie is a fucking champ! Ben Kingsley is one bad ass motherfucker for real in this movie, his performance is right up there with Sam Jackson in Pulp Fiction. This movie might lack a little in originality but it more then makes up for it with stand up acting and creative cinematography. This movie also features The Stranglers "Peaches" which is one hell of a cool song. What else could you ask for.
I give this move 9 out of 10 for being an all out bad ass.
The Kid Stays in the Picture
I got to give props to my brother for point this picture out to me. The Kid Stays in the Picture is a documentary about legendary Paramount producer Robert Evans. Evans was discovered poolside by Norma Shearer who chose him to play her husband in "Man of a Thousand Faces". He went on to the colorful role of the bullfighter in Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises." The problem being that Evans was only a pretty face that couldn't act. Evans realized this and went on to producing some of the most influential films of the late 60s and early 70s including Rosemarys Baby, The Godfather, Harold and Maude, and Chinatown.
This picture might be a little bit of a vanity project for Evans but he tells on hell of a story and keeps you interested the whole film. Defiantly worth the price of admission.
I give this movie 8 out of 10 for being utterly fascinating.
I Am Trying to Break Your Heart A documentary about the making of Wilco's fourth studio album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I'm a bit of a Wilco fag so I loved this movie, but this movie is not only for Wilco fags because the people I went with enjoyed it too. This movie perfectly captures the drama around the release of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, from the firing of a long time band member to the events that lead Wilco's label to drop them because the album they produced was a bit to experimental for their taste.
If you loved the album you'll love the movie.
I give this movie 9 out of 10 for showcasing how much ass Wilco kicks.
Calling Bobcat
"An underachieving college drop-out is dumped by his girlfriend of many years. Completely devastated, the young man employs his two best friends to aid him in an all night search through the New Jersey suburbs to find her. Closely following her trail, the trio encounter an evening of unpredictable adventure and bizarre mayhem they never bargained for."
I had to steal that description from another site because this movie was such as piece of trash that I couldn't watch all of it. I love indy films and I love Bobcat so I thought I would love this movie. I was so wrong. It was like the film maker saw Clerks 200 times and thought I could do that, made this movie, and failed miserably. This movie wants to be Clerks so bad that it sad really. Don't waste you time with this one, trust me. Even if you saw it a million times rent Clerks again and spare yourself.
I give this movie 0 out of 10 because it really sucks ass.
